I picked a hell of a book for my first ever erotica novel experience. This was just really not good and does not make me want to read anything else the author has written which I was initially curious about.
This initial encounter incites the violent power play that drives an adult Lulu through a series of increasingly titillating sexual exploits. However, Lulu tires of her cloistered existence, and begins hanging out in shady bars, looking for vicarious thrills and danger. I didn't mind the age gap and the parts that are meant to be disturbing erotica, but something was just lost in translation with this one. Always fascinated by the thin line separating decency and morality from perversion, Lulu gains the courage to explore the darker side of her carnal desires—but as her forays become increasingly desperate, the world of illicit and dangerous sex threatens to engulf her completely.
The writing itself is generally fine, but the way the main character talks about trans and gay people is deeply uncomfortable and difficult to ignore. It is also funny to notice that Pablo after sharing with Lulu all about sexual experiencies after being in jail at the end of the book seems to me that he blames her because things between them went wrong and not even their little girl could help them to make things work it out. Lulu feels bored and soon she is addicted in kinky and bizarre sex with gays in the underground of Madrid. May contain limited notes, underlining or highlighting that does affect the text. Despite being so edgy, the story isn't that bad if you can stand pages and pages of explicit sexual descriptions, of course and Lulù herself is a well-built character that I surprisingly didn't hate. If you´re gonna do it, do it right. The writer stops at nothing to deliver a compelling erotic thriller that will have your heart racing from the first page to the last. It starts as an innocent curiosity and ends in an almost dangerous obsession.
The reader still is unaware that it's Lulu. Neri is dubbed into by another actress. I´d never heard of the book til I saw it on the shelves but apparently it´s famous and there have been films about it. However, as Lulu matures she gets into some very wierd activities, including some voyeuristic activities with gay men. I didn't connect with any sort of emotions, not even the shock or disgust that I think was meant to be conveyed at times.
